You will learn the whole process of creating concept art: from a basic idea to the final piece of artwork, and get the feel of what it is like to be a part of a project for an animated movie.

Concept Art

You will learn how to start with a basic idea or a concept to create a world of its own using simple tools and techniques. You will go through the whole process like concept artists in real studios do, and discover what it's like to be a part of a project for an animated movie. I'll demonstrate the workflow of a concept artist. We will start with a line sketch and slowly work through the artwork by using techniques like Photobashing and 3D concepting to create a final piece. This course is perfectly suitable for people who don't know how to draw since I use basic techniques and simple examples. You will still be able to produce a great result, even with no prior knowledge!

What do our students say?

You will study from animators and Motion Designers from around the globe. Each of them is a professional in their own field, seasoned in production studios, freelance projects with big brands and stock footages. And right, we are also sweet.

I am a concept artist and Art Director with more than 6 years of experience. Since childhood, I have always enjoyed drawing and I have always been very fond of movies and computer games, and, perhaps, I have been most impressed by cinematic trailers for games. I eventually realized that I could be a part of the creation of such projects. I have worked on dozens of cinematics, music videos and triple-A games.

The most inspiring thing for me as a concept artist is that I literally depict what the final product will look like. You can basically translate what you have imagined into a visual language transforming into images the things that existed only in your head. There are no limits to this profession as every task is a new challenge, and each previous work seems imperfect to you because you're constantly developing your taste and skills. Because of that, you strive to make your next artwork even better.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to know how to draw?
No, this is not necessary.

The most common problem new illustrators face is lack of knowledge of the basics: how to work with lines, shapes, and perspective. In order to speak the same language, we'll start from the very basics. After you learn a certain set of rules and guidelines, you'll hardly keep on making obvious mistakes again.
Will this course work for me if I know nothing about Concept Art?
Just fine! This course will be very useful for newcomers who want to start their career in Concept Art.
What kind of software do I need?
We`ll work with the following software:

  • Adobe Photoshop (trial version is enough)
  • Blender (free software)
Do I need to buy any additional scripts or plugins to complete the course?
No, there's no need, as all the software you need has a student license or trials.
What are the system requirements?
Operating System
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit or higher on Intel or AMD 64-bit CPU with SSE3 support or MacOS 10.11.6 or 10.12.4+ with 64-bit CPU running on Intel-based Apple Macintosh 4 GB RAM (8 GB or more recommended), OpenGL graphics card supporting OpenGL 4.1 (dedicated GPU recommended)

The GPU renderer requires an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card on Windows or AMD on MacOS that supports OpenCL 1.2 or newer. Metal support requires MacOS 10.13.2 or newer. We recommend at least 4 GB VRAM for GPU rendering.
How long does it take to successfully complete the course?
Up to 1 month. This is an online course so you can take your time with lessons and practice tasks.
Are there any discounts?
If no presale or discount activities are happening, you can contact us to receive a $50-off coupon. We provide coupons for countries with not-so-good exchange rates and for students.

We consider a country with a not-so-good exchange rate a country, where the currency rate is more than $1 to 10 units of local currency. For example, 10.5 Botswana Pula equals $1. If your country's currency rate is lower than 1:10, we do not consider your country as a country with a not so good exchange rate.

We consider you a student if you have a valid student email address (@***.edu) and/or a valid student ID. Please either write to us from your student email or attach a picture of your student IDso that we can verify your student status.

Please double check if there are any presale, sales or discount activities happening as we do not provide coupons during these periods.
Can I get a refund?
If you're disappointed for whatever reason, you'll get every cent back within 14 days after the purchase. Whether you select to complete the purchase in a single or in several payments.

Note that it only applies to purchases without a discount. So if you would like to use a discount coupon or complete a purchase of several products with a discount, you will be not eligible for the refund.
Can I share the art that I create during the course?
Yes, all the artwork you create on the course belongs to you. You can share and tweet and dribbble whatever animation you create. We would be grateful if you mention our school while sharing, we have @motiondesignschool accounts almost on every network.
What if my level of English is not good enough and I find it difficult to understand the spoken language?
This course has subtitles, which makes the content easier for understanding and lets you check the unknown words in the dictionary, if needed.
