Challenge Rules
Help us develop the character's story by showing a side of it we've not yet seen. Yup, sky's the limit when it comes to ideas. However, it would be nice to see something other than a walk cycle.

As for style, well you can either design your own version of the character or use the illustrator file that we'll provide.

Join the Challenge to get the illustrator file of the character created by Markus Magnusson.

Here are some topics that can help you get started:
  • What sort of magic powers does the character have?
  • What is the character's favourite thing to do in their free time?
  • What sort of ambitions does the character have?
  • Is the character good, evil or inbetween? Show their intentions with animation.
  • What sort of history does the character have? Any events that shaped them?
  • Where does the character live now?
  • Does the character have any secrets?

When your masterpiece is complete then simply post it to instagram.

Tag both @motionmarkus & @motiondesignschool and hashtag it with #motionmarkus #motiondesignschool

The Deadline for this challenge is the 26th of October.

Here are some other technical details you need to know:
Length: max 15 sec;
Format: mp4 (h.264)
Aspect ratio: Square(1x1)

Heyoo, My name is Markus Magnusson but most of you probably know me as Motionmarkus. I'm a Swedish born animator with over 10 years of experience in bringing characters to life. I've animated everything from Google Doodles to wizard sticker packs for Dropbox. In this course, I will spill the beans on all my techniques so if your characters are a little bit stiff & bent out of shape then you'll love this course.

Who will be teaching?

You might have already seen some of his striking eye-catching stuff, but here it is once again!

What is this course about?

In this course, you'll learn five types of walk cycles. Not only will this help you understand walk cycles in general but hopefully will inspire you to create your own types of walk cycles. We'll also go over hand- & shoe perspectives which is a common struggle amongst animators today.

Having spent the last 2 years working on tutorials I've noticed a growing interest in Walk Cycles. I would even go so far as to say that it's one of the most (if not THE most) popular things that new animators want to master. That's why it felt way overdue to finally do a full course on the subject matter at hand.

Now, contrary to what you may think, this course won't go over the more common walk cycles such as a "regular walk" or a "double bounce". Nope, these are well documented already and can be found all over the Internet.

Instead we're gonna jump right into the deep waters and create 5 creative walks that will push your walk cycle skills to the next level and help make your work stand out from thousands of walk cycle animations that are already out there.
What you'll learn:
Different Walk Cycle Tempos

Creative Timing

Leg Animation

Arm Animation

Secondary Motion

Shoe Design

Hand Design

Get ready to level up your animation game, cause once you master all these topics your characters will walk like never before!

What do our students say?

You will study from animators and Motion Designers from around the globe. Each of them is a professional in their own field, seasoned in production studios, freelance projects with big brands and stock footages. And right, we are also sweet.
